Kalani Moore
- Visiting Student, Photonics Laboratory
About
Kalani Moore is a Ph.D. Student from the University of Limerick in Ireland. He studies a range of nanomaterials with Electron microscopy and his major pastime is explaining to friends and family what that is. He enjoys most sports but practice surfing and rugby the most. Anything water-based and he's in. He also like board games such as Risk and Scrabble.
Kalani's current Ph.D. title is “2D sheets in a 3D world” meaning I get to do EELS on a whole bunch of different 2D defects/features in materials.
Kalani is involved in a US-Ireland project on Ferroelectric domain walls, which involves materials such as lead titanate, lead germinates, copper chlorine boracite, lithium niobate, and lanthanum aluminum oxide. He has been studying the behavior and electronic characteristics of these domain walls at atomic resolution and under electric fields/heating in-situ in the SEM and TEM.
Other than that, he has worked on ultra-low energy ion-implanted graphene, MoS2 and MoSe2 and I am currently investigating MBE grown group iii-nitrides with 2Ds as the active region in KAUST.
