This talk provides an overview of the latest laser-based lighting and Gbit/s VLC and underwater communications. Recent progress of visible wavelength high-speed transmitters and receivers will also be discussed.

Bárbara Nicoly M. Oliveira is an electrical engineering graduate from the Federal University of Campina Grande, Brazil. Bárbara will join KAUST this fall as a M.S./Ph.D. candidate and member of the Photonics Laboratory under the supervision of Professor Boon Ooi.

Bárbara Nicoly M. Oliveira is a M.S./Ph.D. candidate and member of the KAUST Photonics Laboratory under the supervision of Professor Boon Ooi. Before joining KAUST, Bárbara obtained a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the Federal University of Campina Grande, Brazil. Eralier, Barbara Nicoly M. Oliveira has been a visiting student in Sensing, Magnetism, and Microsystems group under the supervision of Prof. Jurgen Kosel.
